The Pow Wow Club 2018 Sheffield Weekender!
3rd August 2018 @ 9:00 pm - 5th August 2018 @ 4:00 am
POW WOW WEEKENDER 2018!
Hopefully it won’t be a news to anyone that we’re doing another POW WOW weekender this year, but I can now officially announce that it is definitely ON, and is most definitely going to be the biggest and best POW WOW event ever!
At the POW WOW CLUB, we figure that incredible music and cool people are enough for anyone, and way more than most cunts ever get, so as usual, we’ll not be fucking around with gimmicks or bullshit. If you can manage without a tribute band, mod candy-floss and Keep The Faith mugs, then we promise that we’ll make up for it with the best music ever made and a few hundred passionate ‘characters’ to mingle with. Instead of thinking of things that might appeal to people who aren’t that into it, we put our effort into making things right for those who are.
We make no apologies for our dos being based around the music, and more precisely, records, and make every effort to bring you the biggset and best, freshest and rarest vintage sounds ever made. With this in mind, the POW WOW DJ team are very proud to be joined by two of Europe’s most exciting and hardest-digging DJs; JOHN BERCHTOLD (Denmark) and CHRISTOPHER STUKENBROCK (Germany)!
Chris’s sets in Lavarone last year were brilliant, and perfectly suited to UK dancefloors, ranging from cool 50s strollers like O Jay Oliver’s ‘Good Gravy’ to badass rhythm & soul like Hank Hodge’s ‘One Way Love’. A top guy with impeccable taste and, let’s just say, a very POW WOW approach to partying!
John Berchtold meanwhile, is building some sort of empire over in Copenhagen; organising the Soul Weekender there, which pulled in 500 people on the first go (next one 30 August – 2 September this year), plus promoting and DJing at clubs in Denmark and all over Europe. Anyone who came to our all-dayer last September might have heard his outstanding afternoon set, which was a good respresentation of his style; flowing seamlessly from r&b gems like Jimmie Raney’s awesome ‘Too much booze’ to full on funky soul like the Hitchhikers’ ridiculous, ‘Mr Fortune’ taking in garage, boogaloo, ska and everything in-between. Another perfect POW WOW fit.
All details, information and updates will now be found here and on the event page.
The weekend’s activities are:
Friday 3rd August club night (9pm-2am)
Saturday daytime event (12pm-6pm)
Saturday 4th club night (9pm-4pm)
Plus a wind-down/survivors party on the Sunday (5th) which we’ll arrange closer to the time once we get an idea of numbers.
Like last time – the Friday is a ‘Birth Of The Cool’ special, focussing on the original mod menu of rhythm & blues, dancefloor jazz, ska and assorted shakers from the mid 50s to mid 60s and the Saturday will be the all-out POW WOW party, with the full range of badass sounds represented.
Both club-nights and the Saturday daytime session, will be taking place at YELLOW ARCH, 30-36 Burton RD. Sheffield S3 8BX.
Anyone who came to our 10th anniversary weekender in 2016 will know what a great venue this is; nicely away from the walking-dead zone, about a half-mile out of Sheffield city centre, close to the M1, train station and most of the city’s hotels.
Since our last event there, they have expanded into the neighbouring buildings surrounding the courtyard, making a fantastic area for our daytime party. We’d like to make a real vintage-fair of this, so if you sell clothes, records or any other POW WOW-friendly shit and fancy doing a stall please get in touch at
There’ll be loads of space, loads of people and you’re more than welcome. It’ll be a great place to hang out in the day, especially as the famous Peddler’s outdor food market thing is on the same weekend, literally 100 meters along the road.
We’ve got a later end of 4am on the saturday this time too, putting right one of the very few things wrong with our last weekender. Apart from that, we’re going for the ‘If it int broke, don’t fix it’ approach, and keeping the format pretty much the same as last time.
To purchase tickets, e-mail your order to POWWOWCLUB@HOTMAIL.COM and we’ll send you payment instructions.
Weekender tickets are £20 each and there will also be a limited amount of single-night tickets at £10 each. The Saturday daytime session and survivors’ party on the Sunday are FREE, and all are welcome.
I’ll not bother with the motivational speech this time. I think we’re all aware of the state of the world and the degenerating nature of the old ‘scenes’. It turned out that large amounts of divs attending mod weekenders or dancing to predictable classics every week, didn’t make anything better. Who’d have thought it?
Through all the half-arsed crap strides POW WOW, like a big fucking stubborn striding fucker; keeping the sounds fresh, bringing people together and never selling out.
True underground culture – use it or lose it!
