Soul & Mod
Soul & Mod is a website whose focus is to provide information on the subculture of Mod as well as the discussion of Soul music. It’s primary aim being a personal chronicle of my participation and memories within the 1980s Mod scene and beyond (including my memorabilia and artefacts). Equally those which reflect my personal Soul music tastes of not only my time as a Mod girl during the 1980s, but from other 1980s Mods & Djs too.
In addition this site includes posts discussing the music related genres that are embraced by the related music communities. Complementing these, a personal selection of videos and Mixcloud uploads are also discussed. These posts and articles focus on my own personal choices of early R&B and 60s Soul music. In addition articles are included relating to books including Kitchen Sink Realism, as well as articles relating to the first generation of Mods from the late 1950s / early 1960s.
This site does not endeavour to be a definitive guide to Mod. Neither is its chief purpose to be a concise encyclopaedia of Soul music and other related genres. It’s aim is to add a collection of articles on an ongoing basis. These I hope will be of interest and of positive use for the prospective reader: its role being to appeal to those with an associated interest. In conclusion, this site endeavours to create a positive resource: for those involved or interested in the subculture and music.
