Mixcloud – Recommended Accounts For Soul, R&B & Mod Related Music
Mixcloud , in my opinion, is one of the major music platforms enabling us to listen to a wide range of music uploads as well as DJ sets from various club nights. I listen to varying uploads on Mixcloud regularly as a large proportion of my daily life is spent dedicated to listening to my preferred listening choices of Soul music. Therefore I have chosen to dedicate a page within Soul & Mod to some of my favourite Mixcloud accounts. This list is by no means exhaustive. Over the course of time I will be adding more recommendations for those readers who too, have a love of listening to early Mod music, Soul, early / vintage R&B and Latin Boogaloo. Inbetween time, for those who are yet to listen to some of these uploads from the accounts mentioned below, I highly recommend. You are in for a treat ????

Maurice Moore
In the 1960s, Maurice began to attend the clubs of Nottingham, starting with the Dungeon, then the Beachcomber, the Boat Clubs (the Boat, Brit and Union) and then many of the others which sprang up. These clubs began playing Mod and Soul music which he had heard covered by the many British bands being formed but these were the originals and had a huge impact on his life. Maurice started playing some of this music on his podcasts on Mixcloud, an attempt to get across to the listener what life was like hearing loud music for the first time and dancing in those dark cellars or small rooms to those vibrant throbbing sounds. A very good example of some of the first music he heard at this iconic club is one entitled ‘Dungeon Days’.
The Pow Wow Club
The Pow Wow Club’s sound is generally ‘Mod-friendly’ with a Rhythm & Blues base. These uploads include early funk, Rhythm & Soul, dancefloor Jazz, Ska & Rocksteady, Latin Boogaloo, Garage, pop or anything else with the appropriate rhythm & attitude.
